Car fire in Canyon considered suspicious

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a suspicious car fire that happened in front of the Dam Town Tavern Friday night.

Hungry Horse Volunteer Fire Department Assistant Chief Pat Clanton said the fire was reported at 10:04 p.m., and the small pickup truck was fully engulfed by the time Hungry Horse and Martin City volunteer fire fighters arrived six minutes later.

The truck was a complete loss.

Clanton said the owners of the truck could not immediately be located and that the investigation was turned over to law enforcement.


Whitefish Police took a report of an older man on East Seventh Street doing yoga in Spandex. This might have been a case where he was providing “too much information.”

A man on Mill Avenue reported that his vehicle was keyed for a second time. The man believed his ex-girlfriend might be the culprit.

A Subaru full of rock climbing gear and camping equipment was reported as stolen from Central Avenue, but was later located.

Two men were counseled after one man claimed the other had punched him in the face during a disagreement over boating laws. The alleged hitter denied the allegations. There were no witnesses and no visible evidence of a physical fight.

A group of six men who had been drinking reported that they were beat up in downtown Whitefish. The men said it was an ongoing issue that happens every year. The suspects are allegedly Canadian.

Officers transported a woman and a small child home after the woman called to say she was about to be released from the emergency room, but had been drinking and should not drive.


Columbia Falls Police officers responded after a woman reported that a bounty hunter had showed up at her house on Mitchell Way looking for a man who was wanted for jumping bail. The call was eventually disregarded.

Officers counseled people setting off fireworks on  Fourth Avenue and B Street.

A man was reported as abusing meth and his mother while his father is gone to work. No physical abuse was found.
