Soccer roundup: Glacier, Flathead boys fall in Helena

HELENA — Flathead held a 2-1 edge at the half on goals by Kaleb Frame, but Helena Capital added two in the second half to pull out a 3-2 Western AA boys soccer victory on Saturday.

Colin Patterson, who assisted on the first two Bruin scores, connected on a penalty kick for the game-winner at 76 minutes.

Capital had 13 shots on goal to 12 for Flathead.

Micah Bucy had six keeper saves for Flathead.

HELENA — Trent Treadway’s goal in the 70th minute was the only score as Helena High slipped by Glacier in Western AA play.

Glacier had 16 shots on goal to 14 for Helena.

Ryker MacIntyre had eight keeper saves for the Wolfpack.

“We had numerous chances,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said.

“We were waiting because we knew it was going to be a one-moment game and they were the ones who got the moment and capitalized. I thought the run of play went both ways. They went at us early, but we started picking up and getting some opportunities but we couldn’t finish.”

WHITEFISH — Five different players scored as Belgrade blanked Whitefish (1-4).

Belgrade outshot Whitefish on goal, 19-1, and in corner kicks, 12-0.

“Belgrade is a very well-coached and very dangerous team,” Whitefish coach John Lacey said.

“Our boys played very well for the first 55 minutes.”

This was Whitefish’s second game in less than 24 hours. Belgrade did not play on Friday (won by forfeit at Bigfork).

Lacey said goalie Marty Anderson “had a real good game, again.”

“It was the absolute best game of the year for the girls,” Glacier coach Brenden Byrd said.

“We went against one of the best teams in the state and had some near misses. We played great from our defense all the way through our strikers. The score line does no justice to the caliber of game that we played.”
