Volleyball: Glacier, Flathead duel at Great Falls Invitational

GREAT FALLS — Glacier won three of four matches and Flathead two of three matches on the final day of the Electric City Invitational volleyball tournament.

Bozeman, which needed three sets to beat Flathead earlier in the day, came back from a set down to top Billings Senior for the championship.

Flathead beat Glacier in the opening round of the championship bracket, taking both sets 25-18 and 25-13. Flathead would defeat Helena Capital in three sets, winning the final game 15-9 to advance to the semifinals loss against Bozeman.

Glacier fought its way back with wins over Billings Skyview and Missoula Sentinel before facing off with Flathead again in the consolation final.

Glacier took the first set against the Bravettes 25-19, but Flathead answered back with a rousing 25-13 set to follow. Glacier finished the match winning 15-2 in the final set.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Columbia Falls fought off Whitefish in four sets to earn a Northwestern A conference victory over its North Valley rival.

Morgan Stenger had a game-high eight kills and Cydney Finberg had four blocks and 26 assists for the Wildkats in the win.

Kate Doorn had seven kills and Ellie Dewan had 13 digs to lead Whitefish.

RONAN — Libby split a pair of nonconference matches on Saturday, sweeping host Ronan before falling in three close sets to Deer Lodge.

The Loggers won a trio of narrow sets over Ronan, led by Mehki Sykes with nine kills and three blocks.

However, Libby would drop those close games against Deer Lodge, falling twice in extra points. Bailey Rosling had nine digs in the match and Taryne Luscher had four aces.
