Volleyball roundup: Flathead falls at Missoula Sentinel

MISSOULA — Sentinel took charge early in the opening set on its way to a Western AA volleyball conference sweep of Flathead on Tuesday night.

The Spartans won their first set 25-12 and fought off a strong effort from Flathead in the second set to win 25-22. The third set went quickly, Sentinel beating the Bravettes 25-14.

Alyssa Wisher had a team-high six kills and Xio Lopp had three blocks, 11 digs and 15 assists to lead the Bravettes.

Kylie Frohlich had 12 kills for Sentinel.

BIGFORK — Libby needed a fifth set to edge past a feisty Bigfork program to earn a District 7B conference victory.

Libby won the first and third sets with room to spare but were handled easily in the second and fourth as Bigfork fought its way out of a deficit. The Loggers were able to get the upperhand in the final set, however, winning 15-12.

India Croucher had nine kills and Emily Mossburg had five blocks for the Loggers.

Lana Berg led Bigfork with eight kills and two blocks.

“It was a great match for us to come out and play five games against Libby,” Bigfork coach Schuyler Baird said.

“They work really well as a team and we have a really busy week ahead of us with homecoming and I think we’ll give them a better show next time. We certainly played hard to go five games and come as close as we did, we were right in there.”

Stillwater Christian 25-22, 25-19, 17-25, 25-12

Eureka ground out a tough first two sets and dropped the third before it was able to put away Stillwater Christian in a nonconference match.

Amanda Peterson had six kills and 20 digs to lead the Lions in the victory.

Alisa Venman led Stillwater with seven kills and three aces. Adrianna Lambert had a game-high 25 digs for the Cougars.

POLSON — Polson needed four close sets to edge Class B Thompson Falls in a nonconference match.

The Pirates were led by Lauren Lefthand, who had 10 kills and eight blocks and Lydia Dupuis with 12 digs and three aces.
