Tyler Combs netted a hat trick to lead the Glacier boys soccer team to a comfortable 6-1 Western AA victory over visiting Missoula Big Sky Saturday afternoon.

The Wolfpack followed up Thursday’s win over reigning state runner-up Hellgate with a dominating performance against the Eagles.

“We were hoping this was going to be the game where a few other people would step up and contribute and that’s definitely what happened,” Glacier head coach Ryan Billiet said.

“(Combs) is starting to free up a little bit as teams are focusing on Colton (Becker) and it’s giving other guys more space and opportunities to get chances on goal. Today we made those count.”

Combs got on the board in the 29th minute and the senior added a couple more in the second half as the Wolfpack pulled away. Combs was twice assisted by Becker, who himself scored two goals to bring his season total to 10 through six matches.

Conner Heil got Glacier on the board in the 13th minute, and the Wolfpack led 3-1 at the break. Chad Helan scored Big Sky’s only goal, in the 38th minute.

Ryker McIntyre made five goalie saves.

The Wolfpack (4-1-1) returns to the pitch Thursday at Missoula Sentinel.

Whitefish (1-4-1, 0-1-1) ceded much of the possession to the visitors, but first-year coach John Lacey was pleased with his team’s effort and the result.

“I’m really proud of the guys,” Lacey said.

“This was the first time our guys played a full game of strong soccer, and to get a result out of that against the team that’s at the head of conference, it feels good.”
