'Weird stuff' a real emergency

The Kalispell Police Department received a call from a concerned citizen who was watching a man on the grass at First Avenue West and 12th Street West “doing weird stuff.” The caller thought the man may have broken his ankle. Medical personnel found the man had crashed his bicycle and was bleeding from the head. He was transported to the hospital with a broken collarbone.

A woman grabbed the arm of a bartender on First Avenue West. The bartender did not know the woman so she asked the woman to leave. She declined. Police were called and a report was filed.

A man on U.S. 2 East allegedly assaulted a couple before leaving in his pickup truck. Onlookers stated the man lived in a trailer park near the river. The woman who was attacked needed medical assistance. The attacker was confronted at the trailer park.

A caller wanted officers to know a homeless-looking man was yelling at passersby and threatening to kick [the caller’s] backside. The caller just wanted the person to get some mental help; he did not want to file a report. Both parties were counseled.


A man called the Whitefish Police Department to report that his car had been stolen from a business’ parking lot the night before. A search for the car found the vehicle at the golf course.

Two boys caused a ruckus when they “mooned” a customer and then ran away from a restaurant on U.S. 93 West. The boys had to sheepishly come back to ask for their skateboards, which they had left in their haste to escape. Officers released them to their parents.

A silver Chevy truck with Oregon plates was reportedly swerving all over the road. The caller, a pedestrian, thought he saw the driver hit a light post in town while heading south on the highway.

A woman came into the police department to report a doctor assaulting her at the hospital. When pressed for more information, she said she had gone to the doctor with an eye infection. She said the doctor had caused further infection by swabbing the infected eye for testing. The woman was informed this was not a criminal offense and if she wanted to pursue it further, she would have to get a lawyer to try a civil suit.


A disc jockey in Columbia Falls called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a man had come behind the DJ booth at a bar on Nucleus Avenue and beat him up.

A woman on Second Avenue West called the police because two “smart aleck” teens were waving at her from the sidewalk. The caller said she “did not need to be stressed out by teenie boppers” and that she was told in college to look out for certain people in the neighborhood.

A resident on Eighth Avenue East North called police to report his loud neighbors who had been fighting for half an hour in the parking lot.


The Lake County Sheriff’s Department made an arrest for partner-family member assault on Finley Point Road at 12:23 a.m.
