Susan D. Henderson, 62

| September 23, 2015 6:00 AM

Susan D. Henderson, of Kalispell, passed away at the age of 62, after a short illness at Kalispell Regional Medical Center on Sept. 12, 2015, surrounded by her loving family.

Susan was born Oct. 13, 1952, in Missoula to Ralph “Bud” Henderson and Jalia (Williams) Henderson. She graduated from Hellgate High School and lived the majority of her life in Missoula.

She worked in the food service industry her entire life, first in restaurants and ending in the dietary department of an area nursing home before her retirement in October of 2014. She was just starting to settle into her new routine after working all of her life.

She moved to Kalispell in the fall of 2008 to be closer to her brother and his family. Susan quickly started hosting many of the family dinners, especially after the family was reminded of just how good her clam chowder was. She never turned down a request for the chowder and made sure to have more than enough on hand to send leftovers home with everyone. She most recently hosted a dinner for her great-nephew Bodie’s fiancee, Kelsey, to welcome her to the family tradition of gatherings to celebrate birthdays.

Susan was preceded in death by both of her parents and her sister, Marie Miller.

Susan is survived by her brother, Ralph Henderson, and his wife, Cheryl; and her sister, Sandra Olson, and her husband, Don. She was the loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, including Jennifer Henderson, Scott Henderson and his wife Brandie and their two sons Bodie and Easton, Steven Olson, Dori Peltier, Dan Olson, Anthony Miller and his wife Lynne and their children Kaitlyn, Margaret and Jack, Krista Miller, Kerri Miller and her children Alex and Jalia. She is also survived by her uncle, Jerry Williams, and his wife, Peggy, and their children and grandchildren.

A private family graveside service will be conducted at the Missoula Cemetery at a date yet to be determined.

Susan’s family would like to express their deepest appreciation to the medical team at Kalispell Regional Medical Center — to Laura (her first nurse), Dr. Obermiller and especially to Kaija Lockhart who administered to Susan with thorough and gentle care.
