Glacier grad named National AP Scholar
Among the 40 Glacier High School students to receive Advanced Placement Scholar Awards, one student was named a National Advanced Placement Scholar.
David Schwarz, a 2015 graduate, was given the national award for achieving “an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams,” according to the College Board, the nonprofit that manages the Advanced Placement Program.
Students taking an Advanced Placement (AP) college-level courses had the option to sit for exams last May. Exams are scored on a 1 to 5 scale. Students may earn college credit for a score of 3 or higher on an exam.
Glacier counselor Jerad Avery said to his knowledge Schwarz is the school’s first National Advanced Placement Scholar.
In May there were 172 Glacier students who took 315 Advanced Placement exams in 14 subjects — roughly the same amount as 2014.
Out of the 315 exams administered, 190 (60 percent) earned a score of 3 or higher.
“I feel these scores are a reflection of a strong AP program and strong instruction,” Avery said.
The following is a list of students and 2015 graduates who received recognition by the Advanced Placement Program:
q National AP Scholar (average score of at least 4 on exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams) — 2015 graduate David Schwarz.
q AP Scholar with Distinction (average score of at least 3.5 on exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams) — Current seniors Teigan Avery, Sydney Chamberlain, Caleb Hill, Kadin Shields, Kyersten Siebenaler; and 2015 graduates, Zachary Cole, Lydia Dal-Nogare, Kade Deleray, Noah Hill, Gabriel Leopold and Samuel Stern.
q AP Scholar with Honor (average score of at least 3.25 on exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams) — Current junior Silas Schwarz; current seniors Josephine Jolly, Ryker McIntyre, Julie Tripp; and 2015 graduates Erick Franklund, Mitchell Gilmann and Hunter Kauffmann.
q AP Scholar (scores of 3 or higher on three or more exams) — Current seniors Kelsie Davis, Kaitlin Giffin, Spencer Johnson, Caleb Jones, Samuel Nelson, Ian Petrini; and 2015 graduates Kaitlyn Anderson, Leesha Baumann, Megan Bridwell, Jarrett Broughton, Anya Difort, Emma Epperly, Zachary Floyd, Benjamin Habel, Tacey Howe, Harrison Kauffman, Jael Konecky, Jacqueline Stenberg, Chazz Upton, Nicholas Vanderbeek and Neal Wood.
