Soccer roundup: Bravettes blank Hellgate

Sadie Wilson and Alex May both scored a goal and Shayenn Thompson and Jaymee Siler were credited with the assists as Flathead blanked visiting Missoula Hellgate 2-0 in Western AA girls soccer play on Thursday.

Flathead scored early in each half to pick up the victory.

Flathead (2-3-2 overall and league) led in shots on goal, 10-6, and in corner kicks, 6-2.

“We’re really excited about the focus we had,” Flathead coach Cory Wilson said.

“It’s the best we’ve played from the first to the 80th minute and we had great team shape.

“Defensively, Hellgate didn’t really get any clean shots at all,” he added.

“We transitioned well from our mids and had lots of attacking opportunities. The girls were focused and we played a great game.”

Flathead’s next match is Oct. 3 versus Glacier at Legends Stadium.

Missoula Sentinel 5, Glacier 0

MISSOULA — Missoula Sentinel dominated Glacier, outshooting the Wolfpack 19-1 on goal and 5-0 in corner kicks.

Claire Danicich and Brittany Delridge had two goals each for the Spartans.

Glacier held tough for the first half, down just 1-0.

Sentinel struck twice in the late going with goals at 73 and 77 minutes.

Glacier plays at Missoula Big Sky on Oct. 1 and plays Flathead on Oct. 3 at Legends Stadium.

LIBBY — Katie Blankenship, Julia Houston, Haley Nicholson and Audrey Hyatt all accounted for all the goals as Whitefish bolted to an easy Northern A victory over Libby.

Hyatt and Nicholson had two goals each.

Melissa Pollard totaled three assists.

Nicholson also assisted on a score.

Whitefish led 2-1 at the half.

Allie Coldwell scored for Libby.

“We’re finally getting a lot of scoring attempts, getting shots and goals from different players and different position on the field,” Whitefish coach Roland Benedict said.

“Pollard was a creative midfielder today. She had about 3-4 chances for herself to get in on goal.”

Kate Martin scored two goals one minute apart and Abby Boll and Alicia Warricks added late penalty kick scores to give Stillwater Christian School a victory over visiting Mission Valley Christian Academy.

“We had great team unity today,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said.

“We had solid defending from Anya Loomis and Abby Boll and great midfield play by Serena Koch. Kate Martin had a great day scoring two goals.”

Missoula Sentinel 2, Glacier 1

MISSOULA — Glacier struck first, scoring in the 10th minute on a shot by Parker Bedard, but Missoula Sentinel tied it 15 minutes later and pulled out the victory with Austin Ledbetter’s goal in the 78th minute.

Sentinel outshot Glacier on goal 7-3. Those numbers were reversed in corner kicks with Glacier holding the edge.

“Sentinel played well and we struggled to connect passes and finish our opportunities,” Glacier coach Ryan Billiet said.

“We had chances but we did not capitalize in key moments of the game. They nicked a last minute goal on us and we could not get a clearance out of the box in the final moments of the game to keep the score line level. It was another good battle against a good team that will benefit us moving forward.”

Glacier plays at Missoula Big Sky on Oct. 1 and faces Flathead on Oct. 3 at Legends Stadium.

Will Dauenhauer and Ryan Sayler had two goals each as Missoula Hellgate blanked Flathead in Western AA play.

Hellgate outshot Flathead on goal 12-6. Both teams had four corner kicks.

Flathead held Hellgate off the board for 28 minutes, when David Kronner started the scoring with his goal.

Dauenhauer scored eight minutes later for a 2--0 lead at the break.

Flathead’s next match is Oct. 3 versus Glacier at Legends Stadium.
