Volleyball roundup: Stillwater rolls; Glacier, Flathead also win

Stillwater Christian School took three quick sets on its home floor to cruise past Flathead Valley Homeschool 25-14, 25-14, 25-11 for a Montana Christian Athletic Association volleyball victory on Thursday evening.

Helen Hashley had a match-high five kills and five aces to lead the Cougars and Dorothy Smith had seven assists and a block.

Adrianna Lambert had a team-high 10 digs for Stillwater (6-4 overall, 3-0 MCAA).

“It was great,” Stillwater Christian coach Diane Smith said.

“I think we’re finally connecting. We started working together as a team. I think we’ve found our niche.

Flathead 3, Hellgate 0

MISSOULA — Flathead bullied its way to a straight sets Western AA victory at Hellgate, 25-20, 25-12, 25-21, to continue its strong run of form.

The Bravettes (6-1, 4-1 Western AA) were led by 10 kills each from Alyssa Wisher and Marisa Postovit.

Jourdon Schultz had 14 digs and Tiana Johnson four blocks for Flathead.

Hannah Lasche led Hellgate with a match-high 14 kills and 17 digs.

“I was very impressed with the girls’ energy and excitement coming off such a big match on Tuesday,” Bravettes coach Courtney Baker said.

“They really stepped up. Hellgate has an amazing outside hitter and they set the ball to her a lot and learning how to defend a hitter like that, it was exciting to watch the girls learn. It was a good win after a busy week.”

MISSOULA — Nikki Krueger had 13 kills and Hailee Bennet 21 digs and six blocks to lead Glacier to a Western AA sweep of Big Sky, 25-22, 25-14, 25-18.

It was the first conference win of the season for the Wolfpack (8-6, 1-4) as it ran away after a close first set.

“We were excited to get our first conference win,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said.

“They played much more consistent tonight. They had a really good focus out there.”

FRENCHTOWN — Columbia Falls rolled in three quick sets to earn a Northwestern A conference victory over Frenchtown 25-11, 25-17, 25-17.

Morgan Stenger had a team-high nine kills and 11 digs to lead the Wildkats.

Lacy Willet had nine kills and nine assists to lead Frenchtown.

POLSON — Whitefish sweated out a pair of close games to earn a sweep of Polson, 25-17, 26-24, 25-22, in a Northwestern A conference match.

Cailyn Ross had nine kills and three blocks to lead Whitefish, and Haley Fyant had seven kills and five aces.

Erin Sampson had 23 assists and nine digs and Chadelle Smith had nine kills for the Pirates.

TROY — Libby pulled out a sweep of Troy in a District 7B conference match to earn a 25-18, 25-21, 25-15 victory over its Lincoln County neighbors.

India Croucher and Haylee Cannon each had seven kills and Ashley Walker 11 assists and five aces for the Loggers.

Aurora Becquart had seven kills and two blocks to lead the Trojans.

Eureka 3, Bigfork 2

BIGFORK — Eureka edged Bigfork in an exciting five-set match to earn a District 7B conference victory, 22-25, 26-24, 22-25, 27-25, 15-12.

The Lions had to go to extra points in their first two sets, but were able to come through in the clutch. Amanda Peterson had a match-high 23 kills, 28 digs and three blocks to lead Eureka.

Talia Wicklund had 37 assists and 15 digs and Lana Berg 12 kills and seven blocks for the Valkyries.
