Isabell Metcalf, 90

| September 30, 2015 6:00 AM

Isabell Metcalf, born July 15, 1925, passed away peacefully at her home in Libby on Sept. 28, 2015.

Isabell was born in Whitefish, the last of six children, to Maggie and William Murdock. She was raised on the family dairy farm in Whitefish. She was proud to have worked for the Great Northern Railroad prior to meeting and marrying Clifford “Smoky” Metcalf in 1946. Together they built a house in Whitefish and later moved to Glacier Park.

Izzy was a wonderful homemaker while her children, Carl and Susan, grew up. She worked seasonally for the West Glacier Mercantile for 20-plus years, a job she was greatly proud of.

She was profoundly proud of her Scottish heritage and was able to travel to Scotland, as well as Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, the East Coast and many other places.

She and Smoky built their retirement home in Columbia Falls and enjoyed many years there.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Smoky; her sisters, Ann Murdock Gardner, Mable Murdock Galbreith and Christine Murdock Barton; and brothers, William Murdock and James Murdock.

She is survived by her children, Carl Metcalf and wife Ethel, and Sue Coons and husband Phil; four grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, at Buffalo Hill Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at Glacier Memorial Gardens.
