LAKE FOREST, Ill. — Libby golfer Ryggs Johnston missed the cut after two rounds of play at the Western Amateur Championship on Wednesday in suburban Chicago.

Johnston finished in a tie for 153rd place, shooting 11-over-par 82 in the first round and 13-over 84 in the second round to fall out of the tournament.

University of Florida sophomore Sam Horsfield leads the field at 4-under-par and the top junior remaining in the tournament is China’s Andy Zhang, who will join the Gators this fall, in seventh at 2-under.

One of the toughest amateur events nationwide, Johnston qualified for the Western Amateur by finishing third at the Western Junior Championship earlier this summer. The winner of that tournament, Sean Maruyama, didn’t compete this weekend but runner-up Trevor Brown also missed the cut, finishing in a tie for 100th at 8-over. The cut was set at 3-over-par.
