Kalispell’s Hayes wins Flathead Drag Race Challenge

ANACONDA — Eric Hayes had won plenty of races in his career but the one that kept eluding him was the race he and his wife founded eight years ago.

That drought ended on Saturday.

Hayes won the Flathead Drag Race Challenge at Lost Creek Raceway in the race car division, driving his 1967 Chevrolet Camaro to a victory over fellow Kalispell resident Tracy Pierson in the finals. The race, which features drivers from only Flathead and Lake Counties, crowned champions in both the race car and street car division.

Brady Snyder of Ronan won the street car division in a 1988 Ford Mustang, besting Kalispell’s Chad Clemons in the final.

The Event raises $120,000 for charity

Rebecca Farm’s 15th annual eventing competition, The Event, helped raise $120,000 for the farm’s official charity, Halt Cancer at X, organizers announced.

The money raised at the July 20-23 showcase came from competitors, community members and spectators. The amount raised was nearly twice as much as in 2015.

The foundation was set up by Sarah Broussard in 2012 following the passing of her mother, Rebecca Broussard, the farm’s namesake.

According to a press release, the Halt Cancer at X charity has donated approximately $250,000 for national cancer research and local support services.

More information on The Event and Halt Cancer at X is available at www.rebeccafarm.org.
