GOLF: Mance runs away to win Montana Mid-Am
POLSON — Whitefish’s Mark Mance made his final round the best one of the tournament, carding a 6-under-par 66 on Saturday to pull away from the field and win the Montana Men’s Mid-Am Golf Tournament at Polson Bay Golf Course.
Mance trailed by four strokes after Thursday’s first round but closed with the two best rounds of the weekend in back-to-back days. Mance shot 67 on Friday and, after his 66 Saturday, no one was close to him by the time the tournament ended.
Mance’s tournament total of 204 (-12) was eight shots better than second place finisher Shawn Tucker, also of Whitefish. Tucker led after the first round and finished at -4.
Defending tournament champion Spencer Williams finished in a tie for third at -2 along with Parker Heller.
Bennett MacIntyre (-1) finished fifth, two shots ahead of a five-way tie for sixth between Paull Veroulis, Kyle Cianflone, Jim Coleman, Brad Grattan and Drew Vanyo.
