LETTER: Rising costs of Whitefish city hall raise doubts

| August 14, 2016 10:30 AM

Well, I read in the paper that here we go again with needing more money for “unexpected” construction costs for the new Whitefish city hall. Really? I have to think that all the extras are from a plan to allow it to pass on a non-realistic bid and knowing future problems existed. Auditing mistakes were blamed for the first $1 million cost overrun. Really? Now contamination for another $150,000? Seems proper planning, engineering, cost estimation, bidding from INFORMED contractors, etc., would have given the taxpayers a real cost for replacement of old city hall! Oh wait, maybe the taxpayers would not have approved the project at the now higher cost.

I see a beautiful new hotel in Columbia Falls has been completed in a very short time frame compared to large projects here in Whitefish. Leads me to think that love of money is the root of all evil and is alive and well in Whitefish! Just a thought.
