Virgil Manning, 83

Virgil Manning passed away Aug. 2, 2016, at Spokane South Hospice House with his wife of 66 years by his side.

He was born Jan. 6, 1933, in Minneapolis. He moved with his parents to Kalispell in 1945.

He married his childhood sweetheart Rosie Schikora. They had three children.

He graduated from the Chicago Institute of Baking where he learned his life’s trade. He managed many bakeries in Montana, Alaska and Washington. He owned his own bakery in Spokane before retiring.

He loved fishing and shared many exciting experiences with his son and grandsons. His sense of humor kept people laughing when they were with him.

He was in the National Guard for three years.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie; daughter, Linda (Nick) Cossette, of Deer Park, Washington; grandsons, Chad (Catherine) Manning of California, Jess Cossette and Corey (Katie) Cossette of Spokane, Chris Clouse of California, and Jenny (Rick) Clouse of Missoula; great-grandchildren, Jasper, Jaina, Reid, Gracie and Addie; brother, Don Manning, of Kalispell; four sisters, Marlene Garrison of Missoula, Maryann (Mike) Manning, and Jeannie (Don) Nelson of Kalispell, and Kathy (Paul) Nockleby of Roseville, Minnesota; special niece, Gina Williams; and sister-in-law, Patty Basler,

He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Joseph, parents Melvin and Rose Manning, brother Ken Manning, and sister Elaine Blotkamp.

The family appreciated the service and excellent care by Hospice of Spokane.

There will be a private family celebration of life Aug. 20.
