FOOTBALL: Eureka, Bigfork coast in openers

ST. IGNATIUS — Austyn Sherwood, Cannan Smith and Garrett Gollahan scored two touchdowns each as Eureka leveled St. Ignatius 61-0 on Friday in Class B football action.

It was the season opener for both teams.

Sherwood ran 3 yards for a score and caught a 2-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Graves.

Smith returned a punt 53 yards for a touchdown and ran eight yards for another.

Gollahan recovered a fumble in the end zone for a touchdown and hauled in a 15-yard pass from Hank Dunn for his other score.

Eureka led 40-0 at the half.

“Mission (St. Ignatius) is very young so we knew there was a chance it would not be a close game,” Eureka coach Trevor Utter said.

“Everybody on the team got to play a ton, they sere super excited.”

Sherwood was 3 of 4 passing for 89 yards. Garrett Graves was 3 of 4 passing for 48 yards. Graves also scored on a 25-yard run.

Matt Anderson, who bolted 18 yards for a touchdown, had 3 carries for 47 yards.

Eureka finished with 332 yards of total offense to five for St. Ignatius.

Eureka freshman linebacker Jake Kindel tackled St. Ignatius quarterback Troy Mitchell in the end zone for a safety. He also had an interception.

TROY — Augie Emslie, making his first start at quarterback, completed 3 of 3 passes for 144 yards and three touchdowns and Matt Farrier scored four touchdowns as Bigfork blasted Troy in Class B action.

It was the season opener for both schools.

Emslie hit Anders Epperly on touchdown strikes of 31 and 65 yards. The other touchdown pass was 48 yards to Farrier.

Farrier had two touchdown runs from 3 yards out and returned a kickoff 82 yards for the final score of the game. He finished with 53 yards on five carries.

Bigfork, up 35-0 after the first quarter, had 328 yards in total offense to 76 for Troy.

Austin Varner was 8 of 9 on PAT kicks.

LIBBY — Kellan Round passed for three touchdowns and returned an interception for a score as Missoula Loyola rolled by Libby in a Class B.

Laine Young scored for Libby on a 50-yard run in the third quarter.

Loyola’s Jacob Byrne rushed for two touchdowns while Scotty Twite had three touchdowns, one by rushing, passing and receiving.

It was the season opener for both schools.
