SOCCER: C-Falls boys, girls roll to wins; Glacier, Flathead open at jamborees

Columbia Falls’ boys and girls posted lopsided shutout victories over Stevensville as the soccer season kicked off for a handful of local schools on Saturday.

Both Class AA schools began their seasons away from home, with Glacier’s boys and girls in Great Falls and the Braves and Bravettes in Helena.

GIRLS

Columbia Falls 8, Stevi 0

COLUMBIA FALLS — Hannah Gedlaman scored two goals and added two assists to lead Columbia Falls to a blowout win against Stevensville in the season opener for both teams.

Gedlaman scored two of the Wildkats’ six first-half goals, tallying scores in the 19th and 38th minutes. She assisted on Madison Snyder’s game-winning goal in the 14th minute and again when Anna Pickard, the Wildkats’ backup keeper, finished to round out the scoring in the 75th minute.

Freshman Flora Jarvis added a goal and an assist. Meghan McCallum, Kaylee Ashe and Katy Garate scored the other goals.

Glacier splits in Great Falls

GREAT FALLS — Glacier erupted for four goals in the second half against Great Falls C.M. Russell to blow out the Rustlers and match their season win total from a year ago.

The Wolfpack dropped its first match of the day, 6-2 against Bozeman.

Junior Cadie Williams scored both Glacier goals against the Hawks and added an assist in the win over CMR. Ellie Stevens, Mercedes Altman, Gabbi Dickson and Paulina Carbajal-Jepsen scored for Glacier against the Rustlers.

Flathead comes up short

HELENA — Flathead battled back from a two-goal deficit in the second half only to fall 3-2 against Billings West in the first of two matches at the Capital City Soccer Jamboree.

The Bravettes lost 1-0 to Billings Skyview later in the day.

Shayenne Thompson scored both Flathead goals as it rallied to tie the Bears in the early match. Chloe Nadeau picked up an assist on Thompson’s first goal.

Saturday marked the Flathead debut for new head coach Jenni Sipe, who praised her team’s play and the work of keeper Kelsey Gillespie, who was in net for both matches.

Columbia Falls 7, Stevi 0

COLUMBIA FALLS — Logan Stephens, John Sigurdsson and John Gilk all scored two goals as Columbia Falls annihilated Stevensville.

The Wildkats scored four times in the first half and never looked back, outshooting Stevi 20-1.

Columbia Falls also led in corner kicks 7-2.

Stephens and Sigurdsson scored five minutes apart to put the Wildcats on top early, 2-0 after 17 minutes.

Storm Kemppainen scored the other Columbia Falls goal and Brandon Karberg earned a shutout in net.

HELENA — The Braves split at the Capital City Soccer Jamboree, shutting out Billings West 3-0 in the opener before falling 2-0 against Billings Skyview.

Glacier bounces back, trounces CMR

GREAT FALLS — Glacier played Bozeman to a scoreless first half before the Hawks used a quick four-goal burst to run away from the Wolfpack and win 5-2.

Glacier rebounded to win its second match of the day, 5-1 against Great Falls C.M. Russell.

Rohit Tappeta and Tyler Keller scored in both matches, with Tappeta adding an assist against the Rustlers.

Ben Bridwell found the net twice against CMR and Dyllyn Stabler scored the other Wolfpack goal.
