CROSS COUNTRY: Polson girls top field at Butte Invitational

FAIRMONT — Four Polson girls finished in the top 19, leading the Pirates to the team victory at the Butte Central Invitational on Tuesday.

Class A Polson finished with 76 team points, ahead of eight other schools including three Class AA programs. One of those schools, Helena High, was second with 88 points.

Sophomore Beatrix Frissell led the way for the Pirates, finishing fourth in 21:17. Molly Sitter (21:44) was next for Polson in eighth, followed by Naima Crowl (17th, 22:22) and Malia Seeley (19th, 22:39).

Butte’s Joby Rosenleaf dusted the field, winning in 19:32. Helena’s Claudia Downing was nearly a full minute back in second place (20:21).

Polson’s boys finished sixth out of 11 scoring teams with 211 points, led by Quin Stewart who finished 21st in 18:36.

Frenchtown won the boys title with 51 points. Helena’s Ian Anderson won the race in 17:08.
