LETTER: Love Lives Here only loves those who agree with the organization

| December 1, 2016 7:00 AM

I’m writing in response to your local news article, “Love Lives Here plans ‘Celebrate the Light’ event.”

This “group” which is supposed to love all, only loves those who agree with them. If you are against refugee resettlement in the Flathead, you are a racist. If you wish to exercise your First Amendment right — in any form — you will be silenced. I found this quote by the group’s founder, Ina Albert to be laughable, “Truth, love and kindness will always win out if our community can find ways to accept and validate each others’ liberties and freedoms.”

The late Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia personally hated the act of desecrating the American flag, but voted for the right to do so as allowed in our Constitution. He said, “If I were king, I would not allow people to go around burning the American flag. However, we have a First Amendment, which says that the right of free speech shall not be abridged — and it is addressed in particular to speech critical of the government,” Scalia said. “That was the main kind of speech that tyrants would seek to suppress.”

Love Lives Here does not seem to believe in the First Amendment. This group is not about accepting, but alienating and name calling. They have labeled the group, Act for America, a hate group because it lobbies states to ban sharia law within their courts. Scalia might very well have called Love Lives Here tyrannical.

With Christmas in full swing and local shopping a favorite pastime of mine, I will not enter a store that exhibits a Love Loves Here poster in their window. And, I will encourage anyone reading this letter to consider the same. —Helene T. Robinson, Whitefish
