| December 31, 2016 9:41 PM

Matthew Juelfs, 47, passed away Dec. 29, 2016, at Kalispell Regional Hospital surrounded by his family and friends.

Matt was born Feb. 9, 1969, in Great Falls. Matt was the adopted son of Sharon Juelfs and Larry Juelfs.

He attended school in Great Falls, Missoula, Bigfork and California before finishing his schooling in Kalispell. Summers were spent at Aunt Sandi’s on Flathead Lake. Winters were skiing on Big Mountain. School years you might find him delivering the Daily Inter Lake.

Early on he learned carpentry skills which started in Montessori School with his making rain gutters and fly swatters. Matt has helped build homes in the valley from Eagle Bend to Whitefish with an occasional change to help building the bank by Home Depot.

After many years together Matt married Jessica Scotten in August 2006. Through this union were born Mattilynn Clair, March 25, 2010, and Jesse Hawk, arriving Sept. 22, 2015. He and Mattilynn had a special bond, you could always find them the first Saturday of the month building a project together at Home Depot. Matt and Jessica especially liked to get out and find a new adventure together. For many years they celebrated the Fourth of July by renting a Forest Service Lookout.

Survivors are his wife, Jessica, and children, Mattilynn and Jesse. He’s also survived by his mother, Sharon Juelfs; and his brother, Joseph Gone with wife Tiya Miles and their children Nail, Noa, and Sylvan of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Aunts, Sandi Daniel of Denver, and Sonja Daniel of Kalispell; as well as cousins, Heather Shipley and Allison Hawes; and grandfather, Clyde Johnson. From Jessica’s family are Gini and Doug Artley, Katie Scotten, Jesse Nick, Monte and Janet Nick, Greg Nick, Melinda and Dan Schriver, Dorothy Artley and many more relatives.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Jan. 7, at the Church of the Nazarine at 1295 Whitefish Stage.

The family is being cared for by Darlington Cremation and Burial Service.
