Gifted guns an issue after breakup

The ownership of two guns given to a boyfriend came into question after a Kalispell couple broke up. The ex-girlfriend called the Kalispell Police Department to ask officers to return the gifted guns to her, but she did not have the man’s phone number or address.

Two residents called after finding their 70-year-old neighbor dead. According to the caller, the neighbor’s door was ajar. When the caller looked inside, the neighbor was on the floor, blocking the door. Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

A Kalispell man accused a friend’s son of stealing several of his firearms.

A driver called police about two people boxing in front of a gas station.

A pregnant woman complained about getting angry texts about the pregnancy from her mother.

A woman called police when her neighbors did not bring their dogs into the house on New Year’s Eve.

A hotel employee called police to pick up a scale and some drug paraphernalia found in a room that morning.

A woman was “cop shopping” for an officer to agree in assisting her with grabbing some items from her soon-to-be-divorced husband. The woman told dispatch she wasn’t positive that her husband would be OK with the pickup, so dispatch told her to contact the court.

A concerned citizen asked police to check on a man sleeping in his car with the engine off. The man was OK and told officers he would run the car to warm up.

Someone locked keys in a running vehicle.

A man was charged with trespassing in a Kalispell hotel room.

Someone at a Kalispell shopping center saw a man throw a purse at a woman’s face. The caller said the woman was crying and the man looked “like a tweaker.”

Kalispell Police responded to reports of a man using a pocket knife to break into vehicles, but found that the man was trying to get into his own vehicle. Police assisted with the process.

A shoplifter made off with a purse full of stolen items from a Kalispell business. Police charged the shoplifter with shoplifting and assault for nearly backing over a woman on the way out of the parking lot.


A gas station employee called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a counterfeit $5 bill.


A woman called Whitefish Police Department claiming a local taxi company did not treat her with respect over the phone. The caller asked dispatch if the company was properly licensed with the state.

A Whitefish hotel employee called police about a man, possibly homeless, mumbling to himself in the hotel lobby. The caller said the man was a guest who had checked out, but his conversation with himself had made the other employees uncomfortable.

After being chased by the neighbor’s dog on several occasions, a resident called police to get the dog’s owner to contain the animal.

An autographed photo that had gone missing from a Whitefish bar was found in a Whitefish hotel.

A woman came to the Whitefish Police Department building for a custody exchange with her husband, but found out that her husband and children had gone to Arizona.


Eight people in Flathead County were charged with driving under the influence on the morning of Jan. 1.
