MISSOULA — Glacier opened the 2016 portion of its wrestling schedule on a high note Thursday evening.

The Wolfpack dominated the mat action with Missoula Hellgate, winning the Western AA dual 54-24.

“I think they really showed that they worked hard over the Christmas break,” Glacier coach Ross Dankers said of his grapplers. “They used a lot of technique (from those practices) and it was good to see that and the hard work pay off.”

The dual win was just the second for Glacier this season.

Dankers said Tyler Eierdam was impressive with his win at 138. The senior trailed 10-1, but battled back and wound up pinning Shawn Olson in 5:47.

“He beat one of their better kids,” Dankers said.

Donavon Macura helped the Wolfpack start strong, with his opening match pin in 5:19 at 160.

Lane Wilson (113), Kyle Mulcahy (120) and Justin Gibson (126) also had pins for the Wolfpack. Mulcahy’s was the team’s fastest — 27 seconds.

Glacier’s Caden Willis (103), Adam Bartlett (145) and Ashton Thompson (205) all won by forfeit.

And Sam Barber (152) triumphed by injury default.

Glacier will compete at a tournament in Spokane today and Saturday.
