BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Glacier, Flathead boys lose; Wildkats remain undefeated

MISSOULA — Missoula Sentinel pulled away in the second half to top Flathead 59-40 in Western AA boys basketball action Saturday.

Sentinel, up 32-23 at the half, outscored the Braves 27-17 after that.

Mitch Reynolds led Sentinel, and all scorers, with 20 points.

Matthew Marshall tallied 19 for Flathead.

MISSOULA — Glacier failed to overcome a slow start, dropping a Western AA contest to Missoula Big Sky.

Glacier fell behind 22-14 at the half and trailed 44-32 going into the fourth quarter.

Jake Norberg and Dylan Ruggles led Glacier with 13 points each.

Nick Yovetich led Big Sky, and all scorers, with 17 points.

On Friday at Post Falls, Idaho, Glacier fell short in a nonconference matchup, 59-49.

Taden Gilman provided Glacier with most of its offense as he scored a game-high 28 points.

Zach Hillman paced Post Falls (8-5) with 22.

HAMILTON — Hamilton rolled out to an 18-6 advantage and never looked back in topping Whitefish in a Class A nonconference contest.

Hamilton led 28-14 at the half.

Josh Heath and Carter Kearns shared scoring honors for the victors with 15 points each. Hunter Omlid added 14.

Jacob Henry was Whitefish’s leader with 10.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Matthew Rensvold scored 11 of his game-high 19 points in the second quarter to guide Polson past Columbia Falls in a Northwest A Conference outing.

Polson outscored Columbia Falls 24-14 in the second quarter for a 36-23 halftime lead.

Payton Lefthand finished with 12 points for Polson.

Nathan Riley tallied 16 points to power Columbia Falls. Tyler Murphy added 10.

LIBBY — Libby battled back in the fourth quarter, outscoring Missoula Loyola 19-14, but still fell three points short in a Class B nonconference battle.

Loyola used a strong second quarter to take a 34-31 halftime lead.

Erik Lauer led a balanced Libby offense with 21 points. Jonny Cielak and Ryggs Johnson added 15 each.

Ryan McHugh topped Loyola in scoring with 16 points.

Libby was 13 of 21 from the free-throw line. Loyola was 16 of 31.

TROY — Ezekiel Misa scored 33 points and Ronan held off a late charge to top Troy in a Class B nonconference game.

The Chiefs led 41-30 entering the fourth quarter, but Troy mounted a furious comeback.

The Trojans, led by 18 points and 11 rebounds from Sean Opland, scored 23 points in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 53-53 after regulation. Troy fell into foul trouble in the extra session and Ronan was able to pull away.

Aaron Misa scored 14 points to help in the Chiefs win.

Kolton Winebark had 11 points and Adam Tallmadge just missed a double-double, scoring nine points and nine rebounds for Troy.

LIBBY — The one-two scoring punch of Shannon Reny-Jayden Winslow for Libby still wasn’t enough as Missoula Loyola claimed the Class B nonconference victory.

Reny totaled 18 points for the Loggers while Winslow popped for 16.

Libby was just 9 of 25 free-throw shooting while Loyola went 15 for 28 from the line.

Skylar Hollenbach led Missoula’s offense with 19 points. She was nine of 11 at the charity stripe.

HAMILTON — Dani Douglas led Whitefish, and all scorers, with 12 points as the Bulldogs edged Hamilton in a Class A nonconference battle.

Whitefish, up 15-10 after the first quarter, held a 21-15 advantage at the half.

Kloie Nye topped Hamilton in scoring with 11 points.

COLUMBIA FALLS — Kiara Burlage powered a strong offensive attack for Columbia Falls with 19 points as the Wildkats crushed Polson in a Northwest A Conference contest.

Columbia Falls raced out to an 18-5 lead in the opening quarter. By halftime, the Wildkats were on top 38-10.

Columbia Falls dominated the boards, 28-11.

Burlage and Sydney Grilley both had seven rebounds.

Cydney Finberg and Ellie Johnson both had four assists and four steals.

The Wildkats shot 53 percent from field to 17 percent for Polson.
