SWIMMING: Popp, Burnham set Glacier records in Missoula
MISSOULA — It was another record-setting day for Glacier freshman sensation A.J. Popp and lots of personal best times for Flathead and Glacier swimmers on Saturday in a meet with the Missoula schools.
Popp set new school standards in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke.
She now holds every individual record at Glacier and is also a member of two record-setting relay teams.
“Overall, a great meet,” Flathead/Glacier coach David Lillard said.
“It was the end of the season for the new swimmers, who learned a lot. They started with rudimentary skills and developed into swimmers. It was fun to see where they are at now.”
Lillard said there were 23 best times by 26 Flathead swimmers and 24 best times by 27 Glacier swimmers.
Glacier’s Anthony Clason, another freshman standout, won the 200 individual medley with a best time and also had a best time in the 100 back.
Glacier’s Nathan Burnham broke the school record in the 200 freestyle with his time of 1:51.08. Jordan Loyda held the old mark, set last year, at 1:51.1.
Results of the meet were not available by press time.
Flathead and Glacier have two meets left before state. The next action is Jan. 23 at Missoula followed by a trip to Great Falls on Jan. 30.
State is Feb. 12-13 in Great Falls.
