BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Libby sweeps Eureka; Polson pounds Stevi

LIBBY — Jonny Cielak scored 15 points and Erik Lauer chipped in 12 more to lead Libby to a runaway 56-33 win against Eureka Tuesday night in District 7B action.

The two teams struggled to put the ball in the basket in the first half before Libby outscored the Lions 20-8 in the third quarter to pull away. The Loggers lead was 17-12 at halftime.

Cielak and Lauer were the only two Libby players in double-figures, but nine Loggers in total dented the scoring column. Gabe Peck and Jason Brant scored six points each in the victory.

Moe Henderson led Eureka with 13 points.

POLSON — The Pirates raced out to an 18-point first quarter lead and never looked back in a Western A Division win against Stevensville.

Polson (4-2, 2-0 Western A) was led by Matthew Rensvold’s 22 points. Julian Jones added 18 and J’Von Niemeyer and Payton Lefthand each tallied nine more.

The Pirates led 35-13 at halftime and pulled away further in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Yellowjackets 23-7.

Polson is back in action Saturday when Libby visits for a 4 p.m. tip.

LIBBY — Three Loggers scored in double-figures as host Libby pulled away in the second half for a District 7B win.

The Loggers out-scored Eureka 32-17 over the final 16 minutes, including a 13-4 edge in the third quarter.

Shannon Reny led Libby with 16 points. Trinity Wallace and Abby Ennenga each added 14 in the win.

Amanda Peterson led all scorers with 20 points in a losing effort.
