GIRLS BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Bravettes bound past Bulldogs, Glacier topples Polson

WHITEFISH — Tiana Johnson reached double-figures for the eighth consecutive game and Flathead picked up its fourth win of the season, 46-32 at Whitefish Tuesday night.

Johnson, who has led the Bravettes in scoring in each of their 10 games, finished with 12 points and connected on a pair of 3-pointers. She was the only player on either team to eclipse nine points.

The Bravettes (4-6) jumped out to a 16-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and never looked back. Kelsey Gillespie added eight points in the victory.

Whitefish (4-7) made five triples in the game but connected on only five two-point baskets and went 7 for 17 from the free-throw line. Dani Douglas and Allie Schulz each scored nine to pace the Bulldogs.

Flathead won the first meeting between the two teams, 56-35, at home on December 18.

Whitefish is back in action Saturday when they host league rival Polson at 5 p.m.

The Bravettes resume their Western AA conference schedule at home Tuesday night with the first of two crosstown battles against Glacier at 6 p.m.

Glacier 57, Polson 31

Glacier built a 22-point halftime lead and walloped Class A Polson Tuesday night.

The Wolfpack (6-3) forced 24 turnovers and built a 38-16 advantage after two quarters.

“We really transitioned well,” Glacier coach Kris Salonen said. “We had some great things off of our defense again tonight and it was really nice to be able to, when we didn’t have those opportunities, execute some things offensively.”

Hailee Bennett narrowly missed a double-double with 16 points and eight assists in the win. Fellow senior Taylor Salonen added five points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Sophomore Anna Schrade scored 11.

Hailey Ruggles contributed four points, seven rebounds, three assists and five steals off the Glacier bench.

Nichole Lake led Polson with 14 points. The Pirates (2-7) were outrebounded 32-17 and shot only 29.5 percent from the field in the loss.

Glacier travels next to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho to take on Lake City at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Pirates will be in Whitefish for a Western A conference matchup Saturday at 3 p.m.

EUREKA — The Camel sisters combined for 43 points and Eureka could not build on a strong second quarter in a nonconference loss to Ronan.

The Lions pulled within seven points at halftime after outscoring Ronan 21-10 in the second quarter, but the Chiefs pulled away in the third quarter.

Lee Camel scored 22 points to lead Ronan. Her sister Alicia added 19 and Louetta Camel chipped in two. Micalann McCrea scored 21 in the victory.

Amanda Peterson scored 18 and Stacy Cooper 12 to lead Eureka.
