BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Libby boys squeeze past Troy

TROY — Troy cut a 10-point halftime deficit to a single bucket only for Libby to pull away late in a District 7B basketball game between the Kootenai River rivals.

The Trojans whittled Libby’s 29-19 lead to just two points with two minutes to play when Loggers freshman Ryggs Johnson nailed a 3-pointer to extend the lead back to five points. Troy couldn’t get over the hump in the final minutes to close the gap again.

Johnston scored a game-high 20 points in the contest to lead the Loggers and senior Anthony Johnson had 13.

Sean Opland had 19 points for Troy and Dillon Savage had 14.

TROY — The Troy girls dominated through three quarters, running away with a District 7B conference victory over Libby.

Allie Coldwell had 20 points and Kaitlyn Down 11 for the Trojans, who led 18-10 after the first quarter and 32-19 at halftime. Troy extended its lead to 45-27 after the third quarter before easing to the finish.

Shannon Reny had 18 points to lead the Loggers.
