LAW ROUNDUP: Woman detains suspected car thief

Kalispell Police responded to a store on U.S. 93 where a woman shopper caught a 13-year-old boy in her car, allegedly trying to steal it. The boy refused to give the woman his name and she made him wait in the driver’s seat until officers arrived. The boy was taken into custody and transported to juvenile detention in Missoula. He was wanted for running away and allegedly assaulting his mother.

A hit-and-run accident near the intersection of Second Street West and Fourth Avenue West did not end well for one of the parties after an officer seized a suspect bag of a green substance that was located in the vehicle.

A woman in a hotel called the front desk to report that there were three people standing outside her room with guns. The front desk called 911. and an officer was en route when the woman called 911 herself and said, “They’re outside my room with a (expletive) gun,” before hanging up on dispatch. An officer found people who were lawfully in possession of guns.

A man was taken to jail after someone called to report that two gents had gotten into a fight at a location on Airport Road where one of the men lost consciousness. The unconscious man refused medical treatment and decided against pressing charges.

A man was taken into custody after a 7-year-old boy ran to his grandmother’s house on River Road to report that his parents were fighting. In addition to the boy, there was another 5-year-old at home in the house. The boy told his grandmother that the father had blood on his hands after the incident. The father was on probation for theft and criminal endangerment.


Whitefish Police advised a man that it was not OK for him to contact his ex-girlfriend and her new fiance. The man argued that he and the woman share rented property, so some communication was necessary between the two, but the officer said any contact that was not related to business would be unacceptable.

An officer couldn’t help a woman unlock her car to get access to her baby, but the officer was able to tell the upset mother about how to get in contact with people who had the proper tools to gain access to the young one.

A mom was not happy after she found that her son had been punched by another child at school. She thought the school should punish the puncher, but the school allegedly refused to do anything because the son had precipitated the incident by swearing. An officer did not file a report at the time.


A Columbia Falls Police officer told a man and woman that they needed to find an alternative mode of transportation after the pair were reported as out and about, drunk, with access to a vehicle. The woman went into a convenience store and caused a disturbance, but left without incident when asked by staff. The pair called a friend to take them back to Hungry Horse.
