LAW ROUNDUP: Bunnies: Fence 'em out or fence 'em in?

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a “rabbit problem in the area” on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell. A man said he really didn’t care that about 30 rabbits were “hanging out” on his property even though they didn’t belong to him — but the neighbor across the street was angry about it and told him he had to fence his property to keep the rabbits in. The man wondered if there were any laws referencing “rabbit control.”

Five cows were spotted milking their freedom for all it was worth while on the loose on Lily Lane in Columbia Falls.

A four wheeler was reported stolen on Beta Road in Hungry Horse.

People in a van on U.S. 93 South in Kalispell were told to move along after they were reportedly “strewing trash” around.

Panhandlers were playing “hide-and-seek” with law enforcement on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell when they were seen trying to hide behind a shed when law enforcement drove by. In a winning move, officers found the hiders and moved them along.

A burglary was reported and a bag of tools stolen at a woman’s River Junction property in Hungry Horse.

A woman’s neighbors on One Way Road in Columbia Falls apparently took the name of the road literally when they put up a gate, locked it and weren’t letting people get through. The woman said the neighbors have yelled at her when she drives through and had threatened to throw rocks at her car.

Officers were unable to locate an allegedly intoxicated man who was seen stumbling into the highway and was not wearing a shirt or shoes.

A woman said her brother hit and kicked her vehicle, causing damage after he had walked in a house in Kalispell and “just freaked out” when he found her son smoking marijuana.

A father was likely not pleased to find that his adult son slashed his tires on Montana 40 West in Columbia Falls.

Someone in Somers called officers to report that a man and woman had been yelling at each other. The man’s hands were later wrapped around her, but the caller was unsure if it was a sign of aggression or just a hug.

Someone on Middle Road in Columbia Falls was concerned that people were shooting in random, unsafe directions, possibly at birds.

A woman on Stone Creek Road in Lakeside needed her boyfriend who was reportedly “throwing a fit” removed from the residence for the night. The man allegedly hit and shoved her. The pair both had been drinking. The man told officers that it was only a “heated argument” and the only thing physical was a broken plate of salsa.

A “belligerent” family member refused to leave a First Avenue North West house in Hungry Horse and was “walking in and out of the house like he owns the place.”


An employee on U.S. 93 West told Whitefish Police Department that someone with a male voice called and was threatening to cut the employee’s head off. The threatening calls had happened for the past three days.

Four kids with backpacks were reportedly involved in a shoplifting incident on Central Avenue.


Columbia Falls Police Department received a report from a man on Darlene Road who said his data is being stolen after someone stole his tablet.

A “harmless” young woman allegedly got into a man’s house on First Avenue East and was curled up on the floor “passed out.”


Someone on Austin Street asked Kalispell Police Department about “live traps” for cats.

Someone on Fourth Street West wanted to log information about a theft of a 100-foot garden hose and sprinklers in case the items were recovered.

A woman was allegedly hiding in a gazebo of an apartment complex on Liberty Street from two males who had pushed her. One of the men reportedly took her knife and swung it at her. The incident may have been about an altercation over a tablet exchanged for $40.

A man calling from Lincoln County said his sister in Kalispell has been calling Lincoln County to harass him and sending him harassing emails and has stolen money from him. The man said Lincoln County “will not help him because they are in league with her.”

A man said he was concerned for a baby and a toddler living at Ninth Street East because he didn’t think the family had food or power.

Someone on Third Avenue East North called police to report that a juvenile male had stolen a beer by putting it in his pants.

A Fifth Avenue East resident could hear a woman in an apartment building screaming at someone to get away from her in an altercation that supposedly had escalated after going on for hours.

A mother was upset to find out that adults have been allegedly buying tobacco for her 14-year-old son.

Someone on Treeline Road claimed a male and two females stole binoculars from a store.
