LETTER: Charity? Let's take care of our own children

I am inundated daily through the news media to send what meager dollars Uncle Sam feels I am entitled to as a senior citizen on Social Security to support UNICEF and the many countries of the world. They plead for “just $21 per month per child” for these impoverished children.
I am an American. What about our own children on the Indian reservations, the black ghettos, and the Appalachian white communities living in abject poverty?
I send money monthly to designated charities, but let’s take care of our own children first and let other countries take care of theirs.
