LETTER: D-Day timetable in Montana
|
June 5, 2016 8:00 AM
At approximately the time most Montana residents were turning in for the night, 72 years ago this coming Sunday (the 5th), troops were on landing crafts, and even some had already parachuted behind the lines during the night (mid-day Saturday, the 4th). Then about 11:30 p.m. the 5th (Montana time), the landings began.
By the way, that was the same day my parents were married at the Military Academy Chapel, West Point, New York, from whence my father was shipped to southern France to fight his artillery battalion northward towards Frankfurt.
The rest is history. And we know history is writ by the victors. And those who do should thank god for those victors, dead, wounded, unharmed.
