POST FALLS, Idaho — The Glacier Twins had five base hits in the first inning to rack up four runs and start early on a 13-4 rout of the Spokane Crew on Friday at the School’s Out tournament.

“We started off real strong,” Twins coach Bob Rupp said. “We just kinda got a couple of runs every inning there on out. We had timely hitting. The boys played real well.”

Glacier opened the first with three straight singles off the Crew, foreshadowing of an 18-hit performance in the opener of the tournament. The Twins scored two more in the second inning on a bases-clearing single from Vinny Smith, and three more in the third as the hit parade continued. Glacier saw eight batters reach the plate in three of five innings, including a four-run fifth, to help end the game early.

A.J Wetsch had five strikeouts and only allowed one hit before the fourth inning, finishing with a three-hit performance. Ryan Veneman closed out the side in the fifth inning.

Glacier plays a doubleheader today after most of Friday’s games were delayed by rain. It plays at 2:15 p.m. with a second game at 8:30.

HAVRE — Kootenai Valley held off a rally from Havre to top the hosts at the Northstars Jamboree.

Dawson Henrie was tossing a no-hitter through six innings, facing the minimum amount of batters, as the Rangers took a 5-0 lead. Kootenai Valley was efficient at the plate, taking advantage of sloppy pitching and defense from the Northstars to score three runs in the third inning.

With a commanding lead entering the final frame, Henrie’s grip on the game began to loosen. He gave up five singles and a sacrifice bunt to the first six batters in the seventh inning as the Northstars grasped for a comeback, scoring three runs in the stretch. Henrie responded, striking out the final two batters to close out the win.

Sam Hannay led the Rangers at the plate, going 3 for 3 with an RBI, and both Henrie and Quade Anderson had two hits.
