WHITEFISH — The defending Ed Gallo Memorial Wood Bat tournament champions are in good shape to do it again.

The Glacier Twins A won twice on Friday, improving to 3-0 halfway through the four-day tournament with a 9-3 win over the Havre Northstars and shutting out Volkswagen of Olympia (Washington) 8-0.

Jonny Sapa was on the mound in game two and followed up a no-hitter last week with a three-hit complete game shutout. Sapa struck out three and did not walk a batter in a game that was called after six innings because of the tournament’s two hour per game time limit.

Glacier’s offense in game two came from Tristin Steinwand who went 3 for 4 with a game-high three RBIs. The Twins had 13 hits, including two each for James Sampson-Keck, A.J. Wetsch and Tyler Murphy.

In their first game of the day, Glacier scored five times in the bottom of the fourth inning to break a 3-3 tie. Steinwand went 2 for 4 with a triple in that game.

In other tournament action, West Valley (Washington) blanked the Kootenai Valley Rangers 8-0. James Dunn had of the Rangers’ four hits.
