Vehicle break-ins plague C. Falls

The Columbia Falls Police Department took several reports about vehicles being broken into and the contents gone through. Two of the vehicles were on Martha Road, one was on Fifth Street West and another was on Seventh Street West. Extra patrols were being done in those neighborhoods.

A caller on Ninth Street West reported two dogs running in and out of traffic. Officers were unable to locate the loose animals.

Police investigated reports of fireworks going off on Fourth Avenue West.

Officers spoke with two boys on bikes on Ninth Street West about curfew rules.

A caller asked police to check on two underage girls who were allegedly sick from drinking too much. Officers ended up taking one of the girls to the hospital.


A man called the Whitefish Police Department after discovering he’d left a handgun in a drawer in his hotel room when he stayed in town in March. The man wanted to know if anyone had found it and turned it in, but couldn’t remember which room he had stayed in or specific information about the gun.

A Glenwood Road resident complained about “booming music” coming from a nearby Wisconsin Avenue business and asked police to “do something about this.” The caller was advised that there is no city ordinance for noise during daytime hours.

A brown, mixed-breed male dog running loose on Somers Avenue with a red collar but no tags was turned in to police.

A 12-year-old was briefly reported missing in town. The boy was found safe at City Beach.

A Mill Avenue resident called police when someone allegedly began drag racing down the street. Officers spoke with the offending driver and issued a warning.

A friendly white-and-brindle-colored dog was found hanging out on an East Fourth Street resident’s porch. The dog was turned over to police.


The Creston Fire Department investigated reports of smoke on La Brant Road.
