LAW ROUNDUP: Kids steal the darnedest things, grandpa says

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office took a report from a grandfather who claimed that his grandson kept stealing gasoline from him.


Columbia Falls Police were called to a call for help after a health-care provider reported that an elderly woman was intoxicated and behaving erratically after smoking methamphetamine.

A woman on Fifth Avenue East North was told that she could not legally burn inside city limits.

A man called from North Dakota for help after his ex-wife texted him a photograph of a trailer being towed away by a pickup truck. The man said his former partner did not have permission to move the trailer.


Whitefish Police fielded a call from a man in Florida who claimed that someone in Whitefish had embezzled from his or her business.

Roommates walking on Mill Avenue called for help after a transient man kept following them around town. Officers recognized the man from previous calls. The man was taken into custody and his belongings were collected from the train depot.


Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to Marion, where a person returned home after a week away and found that his or her home had been burglarized. The thief left a pair of binoculars on a bed.

A maintenance worker reported that he had been cleaning up the grounds of a church property, when he found a .22 revolver. The gun was collected by police.

A man in Lakeside wanted a deputy to respond after a neighbor admitted to cutting down a tree that was on his property.

A woman on Antelope Trail outside of Whitefish reported that someone intentionally drove through her yard and damaged some yard ornaments.

Deputies had a vehicle towed after it was found abandoned near a gravel pit. The truck had been reported stolen out of Lincoln County.

A transient man was counseled about trying to board a train without a ticket in Whitefish. It was the second or third time the man was caught in the past few days.

No one wanted to tell a deputy what happened after a woman called from Hungry Horse to report that a man had gone into someone else’s home and destroyed a television with a hammer. A fight between the dogs of the parties involved reportedly triggered the event. The woman who owned the television admitted to using a stick to hit the man wielding the hammer.


Kalispell Police cited and released a couple who had a small child in tow as they walked around the store, shoplifting items and putting them in a tote bag. The couple tried to make off with the tote full of merchandise and a bag of dog food, but were apprehended. The woman, who was visibly pregnant, started to run, but eventually cooperated.

Two men were caught on video stealing three chainsaws from a location off U.S. 93.
