LAW ROUNDUP: Dogs accused of 'murder most fowl'

Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to Lodgepole Road, where someone reported that a neighbor had seen two dogs kill 73 chickens and six guinea hens. It was unknown if the dogs were strays or had an owner.

A Kila mom seized her teenage daughter’s electronics after she found that a 30-year-old man had allegedly been sending the underage girl sexually explicit communications.

A deputy investigated a storage unit break-in off U.S. 93 near Kalispell. An espresso machine worth $5,000 was stolen from the units. The owner thought one of her former coffee shop employees might be behind the theft. She did not immediately want to press charges.

A woman outside of Whitefish was advised that it was not illegal for her husband to destroy her property in a bout of mental instability. Unless the woman thought the man was suicidal or might harm her, there was nothing a deputy could legally do, she was told.

A man on Clark Drive outside of Kalispell went into his tool shed and found that someone had stolen tools and car batteries over the weekend.

A man called from Montana 35 outside of Kalispell asking for help because his brother allegedly tried to kill him by rear-ending him a day before. The man was worried that the brother might still be angry with him. A deputy was not immediately able to verify the facts of the call, because the man was less than helpful at answering questions.

A woman called from Farm-to-Market Road to report that a student threw rocks at her vehicle and damaged it. She was advised to work with the school principal to rectify the situation after the woman said she had no desire to handle the case in the criminal court system.

A deputy performing extra patrol on Beaver Lake Road heard some shots and investigated. He found two individuals legally shooting gophers with a .22.

Deputies removed a vulgar and disrespectful sign that was placed next to a child’s memorial on Montford Road.

A woman dropped a credit card at a gas station on Montana 35 and found that it had been intercepted by a dishonest person who used the card at several fast food establishments.


Columbia Falls Police gave a woman on Third Avenue East advice after she reported that someone had sent her a fraudulent check to pay for an item she had posted on Craigslist.


Whitefish Police took a call from a woman who claimed that a man had been driving her truck since August without permission. The suspect’s wife confirmed that the man was driving the truck, but that he was driving it because the owner owed him $7,000. The woman asked for her truck back and she was able to pick it up later in the day.


Kalispell Police took a man to jail and seized a backpack after someone called from North Main Street to report that four or five grungy looking men had tried to sell employees drugs. The man was released from custody. All individuals involved were given a warning for trespassing.

Officers got some troublemaking transients to move along after a woman reported that 12 or 13 homeless-looking individuals had shouted obscenities at her as she tried to use the restroom in a public park.
