SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Polson, Libby go 2-0 on final day in Butte
BUTTE — A five-run second inning was enough to carry Polson to a 5-3 victory over Lewistown on Saturday at the Laverne Combo softball tournament.
Laurel Bitterman and Quinn Motichka both went 2 for 3 to pace Polson. Bitterman and Kaelyn Smith each doubled once.
Nora Weichel, Mikayla Comes and Karlie Southworth had home runs for Lewistown.
That was the fourth game of the tournament, giving Polson a 4-0 mark.
Earlier in the day the Pirates rolled by Miles City 14-3.
Hannah Potter, 2 for 4, homered in the fifth inning, a solo shot to center field.
Motichka was 3 for 4 in that contest. Smith and Renault had two hits each.
“I think everyone got in on the hitting (this weekend),” Polson coach Larry Smith said.
“That’s important going into the end of the season.”
He said defense and pitching prevailed in the later innings of the Lewistown contest “when our bats quieted down.”

BUTTE — Four Libby players had a perfect outing at the plate to push the Class B Loggers to an easy victory over Class A Stevensville at the LaVerne Combo tournament.
Madisen Monigold and Alyssa Marshall were both 3 for 3 while Sammee Bradeen and Emily Carvey went 2 for 2.
Khalyn Hageness, 2 for 4, doubled twice, along with Marshall. Bradeen had one double.
Carvey had three RBIs.
Libby outhit Stevensville 14-2.
Hageness, 2 for 3, and Monigold, 1 for 3, homered for Libby in the romp over Cut Bank.
Marshall, Taryn Luscher and Walker doubled in that contest.
