LETTER: Harmon is a true leader

| May 15, 2016 7:00 AM

As Election Day draws nearer, the Flathead Valley is becoming decorated on every street, lawn, fence post — and everything else in-between — with political campaign posters. Everyone knows who Donald Trump is, but who are the other guys?

The one answer I do have is that the guy on the lime green posters is Tim Harmon, and he is running as a Republican for Flathead County commissioner.

Here’s my story. The first day I met him was the first day I walked into the fair office. No, not as a guest, but as an employee. My twin sister and I were hired by Tim at the age of 16 as maintenance men ... I mean girls. Trust me, it wasn’t the ideal summer job, but it was the only job a manager hired and gave us a chance at. That manager was Tim Harmon.

We worked rain or shine, doing anything from scraping paint, to cleaning pig stalls. So why would two 16-year-old girls do that? To tell you the truth, it was all because of Tim.

Tim saw me as an equal and believed in me. Tim is an honest leader and a pretty good one at that. He had a list a mile long of things to get done, but with his leadership he made the impossible, possible. He is not the typical boss who tells you what to do while sitting in an office. He is the guy by his crew’s side every single day.

That’s the kind of leader and change we need in the community. Someone like Tim who will work for you and do the work that needs to be done for the citizens of Flathead County. I believe in Tim, just like he believed in the 16-year-old me.
