LETTER: Rep. Hertz needs to 'get out of the way'

| May 19, 2016 10:22 AM

As the saying goes, “Lead, follow or get out of the way.”

Unfortunately, our HD12 GOP representative, Greg Hertz, does not abide by this sage advice.

He recently criticized Gov. Bullock’s lack of leadership on not being successful in passing SB 416, the 2015 Legislature’s GOP-sponsored infrastructure bill. To the contrary, Gov. Bullock, after failing to get support for his proposed infrastructure bill, showed leadership and his concern for promoting jobs for Montanans by compromising and negotiating with the majority of GOP legislators.

Working together they developed an infrastructure bill that 113 of our 150 Montana legislators supported, including all 62 Democrats and 51 Republicans. Our Polson area representative, Greg Hertz, the GOP House majority whip, was one of 36 Republicans, along with GOP Senate Majority Leader Art Wittich and local Rep. Al Olszewski, who refused to compromise and support this GOP infrastructure (jobs) bill sponsored and supported by 51 of their fellow Republicans.

Seems like some of our Montana legislators have adopted the Washington GOP establishment’s “Party of No” approach. Who is the real leader?

Rep. Greg Hertz and Rep. Al Olszewski, for the future good of our fellow working Montanans, please “lead, follow or get out of the way.”
