LETTER: Holmquist for county commissioner

| May 22, 2016 7:45 AM

There is an old saying that goes, “If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” That sums up how we feel about the possibility of losing Pam Holmquist as one of our county commissioners.

Pam has voted against raising taxes in our county. Though the county budget for the coming year has not been finalized, it will be in the league of $90 million.

Flathead County employs over 500 people. The commissioners are responsible for those employees’ performance, and in itself, that requires some experience. Pam gained this in being a business owner for many years with her husband, Wes, prior to being elected six years ago.

She works well with the other commissioners and worked to gain county control of the doughnut area around Whitefish, which will stabilize the situation for property owners who live in that area. She also worked to include the property owners’ “Bill of Rights” in the 2012 growth policy.

From a personal standpoint and through many ups and downs, Pam supported the effort to place the beautiful clock in our courthouse tower. OK, so it was a little thing and the commissioners had other more important matters, but Pam hung in there with those of us that felt the world would end without it. Just a human effort on her part, and remember the clock was donated by one of our generous citizens.

Pam Holmquist has proved to us that she is capable and will work with and for the betterment of Flathead County. We don’t make this recommendation lightly, having served in public office and are aware of the external demands that are placed on those that are willing to serve.

Let’s retain Pam and the effort and experience she has shown in these past six years.
