LETTER: Holmquist deserves to be re-elected

| May 24, 2016 11:00 AM

Pam Holmquist is running for re-election as Flathead County commissioner. She has my support and my vote. Here’s why:

After watching politicians for 50 years in the Flathead, I learned it’s like a lesson from the farm — a little bit of cream rises to the top.

The city of Kalispell in that time has elected about a dozen people I truly admired, such as Norma Happ. The county’s true leaders number about half that, such as Howard Gipe and Jim Dupont.

I like longtime locals who understand out customs, culture and traditions. They know that while we have billionares, millionares and trophy homes, the true heart of the people survives here in a state that ranks 49th in wages. Leaders don’t just go along to get along and become cheerleaders for the bureaucracy.

Pam as a business woman has dealt with real people. She understands real needs from expensive fluff and knows what a bottom line in business really means.

On some issues Pam and I disagree, but her door is always open while she listens in a cordial way.

Pam has supported the grassroots election system for years and knows the sacrifice it takes to seek public office. It takes time, talent, treasure and votes. If you can provide Pam with any of those, I urge you to get involved and re-elect Pam Holmquist to another term as Flathead County commissioner. —Jerry Begg, Kalispell
