Man was just trying to borrow money

A man in a trench coat was allegedly banging on doors at a residential complex on Eighth Avenue West, and a caller told the Kalispell Police Department that the man was unknown in the area and acting “oddly.” Officers spoke with the man in question, who reportedly said he was just looking to borrow $5 from someone to get to work.

A caller told police there was a man regularly “sleeping and urinating” near a dumpster in the alley behind a South Main Street business.

A resident from the Teal Drive and Merganser Drive area called police after noticing a neighborhood mail receptacle’s back door was open, with mail “all over the place.” The caller said attempts to contact the Post Office had been unsuccessful.

A driver on North Meridian Road called police to report a female allegedly walking in the middle of the dark road. The caller was concerned for the pedestrian’s safety.

A woman reported her cell phone had been stolen from her unlocked vehicle on Airport Road.

An employee at a Hutton Ranch Road business called police after a man allegedly took items off a shelf and then tried to “return” them without having paid for them first. The suspect was cited and released.

A caller told the Whitefish Police Department that a man was allegedly sitting in his vehicle, drinking beer and loading his rifle in a U.S. 93 South parking lot. The caller said the man didn’t seem threatening, but found it odd that he was loading a gun while parked in a parking lot. Officers spoke with the suspect and counseled him on gun safety.

A wallet was reportedly stolen from a Central Avenue business.

A caller told police there was an overflowing trash can on Crestwood Drive. He was concerned because there had been reports of black bears in the area.

Several hours later, someone called to report a “huge bear in the garbage can” on Labrie Drive. Officers were unable to locate the animal.

A Riparian Drive resident called the Columbia Falls Police Department to report a mailbox and post were gone, allegedly taken sometime overnight.

A caller told police there was a man allegedly hiding behind a fence at a church on Ninth Street West. Officers were unable to find anyone or anything amiss.

The Evergreen Fire Department responded to reports of a motor vehicle fire on U.S. 2 East.

The Bigfork Fire Department responded to reports of a burn pile on Montana 83.

The Kalispell Fire Department responded to reports of a motor vehicle fire on Appleway Drive.
