GOLF: Whitefish girls lead Kalispell Invitational
Holly Hileman shot a 91 and twin sister Hayley carded a 92 to lead Whitefish to the top of the leaderboard after day one of the Kalispell Invitational at Buffalo Hill Golf Club on Wednesday.
The Hileman twins are sixth and eighth after the first round on the par-72 course, with the Bulldogs holding a four-stroke lead over Missoula Sentinel in the team standings, 382-386. Whitefish’s Gracie Young shot a 96 and is 11th.
Great Falls High’s Kayla Slavik fired an 85 to post the low round of the day. Glacier senior McKenna Tinseth is next, just one stroke back. Tinseth is coming off a third-place finish at the Capital City Invitational in Helena last weekend.
The Wolfpack girls are third as a team (403), ahead of Great Falls (407) and Flathead (408). The Bravettes were led by Becca Knutson’s 91.
The Bison boys hold a commanding day one lead thanks to four golfers in the top 10. Great Falls’ 297 strokes are 14 fewer than second place Sentinel and Great Falls C.M. Russell (311).
Polson’s Carson McDaniel is second after one round following a 1-under-par 71. He sits two shots behind tournament leader Max Toenjes of Hamilton. Glacier’s A.J. Grande is 10th after carding a 77.
Flathead is tied for fourth as a team at 325, two strokes ahead of Polson (327) and five clear of Glacier (330).
Rielly Manger and Nick Weaver shot matching 79s to lead the Braves.
The tournament concludes today.
