SOCCER: Whitefish boys blank Stillwater Christian
Goals by Denver Dicks and Quinten Joos gave Whitefish a 2-0 boys nonconference soccer victory over Stillwater Christian School on Monday afternoon at Stillwater Christian.
Joos also assisted on the first goal at 38 minutes. Avery Hirsch assisted on Joos’ goal at 70 minutes.
Whitefish (3-4 overall) held a slight edge in shots on goal, 18-12. Both teams had three corner kicks.
“We played really good soccer the last couple of games,” Whitefish coach John Lacey said.
“Our midfield is starting to assert itself.”
Playing the midfield spots are Hirsch, one of the team’s senior captains, Xander Burger, Sam Menicke, Noah Romagnuolo, Eli Joos and Quinten Joos.
“Good flexible soccer players in there,” Lacy said.
“The are starting to click and play well.”
Whitefish is back in action Saturday at 7 p.m. versus Polson at Memorial Field.
Stillwater continues with nonconference play at Columbia Falls on Thursday at 7 p.m.

GIRLS
The Whitefish JV and Stillwater Christian School battled to a scoreless tie.
Neither team had a big advantage statistics wise.
Stillwater slips to 1-3-1 on the season.
“We had difficulty in the first half controlling the midfield.,” Stillwater coach JR Hemp said.
“We had solid defensive play all game by freshman Madi Schwarts, sophomore Loren Pittaway and junior Chloe Mathwig. We struggled in the midfield all game and could not organize to finish in the final third.
“The ladies were more connected the last 12 minutes of the match and had a couple of good looks but were unable to convert,” Hemp added.
“We played a well-coached, well-disciplined Whitefish team that did a great job maintaining their shape.”
Stillwater Christian plays at the Columbia Falls JV on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
