The annual Taste of Home Cooking School is one of the most popular events sponsored by the Daily Inter Lake, and this year’s event has moved to the weekend for your convenience.

Doors open at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Trade Center in the Flathead County Fairgrounds. This is a new location, so make sure you park at the north end of the fairgrounds.

The cooking school gets started at 6 p.m., with Culinary Specialist Renee Morgan teaching the crowd a bunch of seasonal recipes and sharing cooking techniques.

Tickets cost just $15 for general admission and are available at Sears stores in Kalispell and Polson or at the Daily Inter Lake. Call 755-7000 for more information, or buy your ticket at the door as well.

LImited VIP seating costs $45, and includes a cookbook, special seating and a “meet and greet” with Chef Morgan at 4:30 p.m.

Libertarian’s death is loss for entire state

Montana lost a distinctive political voice on Monday with the death of Mike Fellows.

Fellows, a perennial candidate for the Libertarian Party, died in a vehicle crash on Montana 200 while returning from a campaign event in Seeley Lake.

A fixture in Montana politics, Fellows was making his eighth run for Montana’s U.S. House seat. He had run in every election since 1998, was involved in the Libertarian Party since 1982 and had been its state chairman for at least 20 years.

We remember Fellows as a refreshing voice in a U.S. House debate that was sponsored by the Inter Lake in 2014. He had a “speak truth to power” approach that provided effective counterpoints to the major-party candidates.

Fellows never really had a chance to win any of his election bids, but he soldiered on, year after year, making his pitch for less government and the abolition of the income tax.

We applaud his determination and will miss his presence on the campaign trail.
