Symphony announces summer schedule

| April 20, 2017 4:00 AM

The Glacier Symphony and Chorale’s summer concert series includes two days of “Pops Goes to the Movies” and the 10th annual Festival Amadeus.

Rebecca Farm is the scene of the annual summer symphony pops concert, July 7 and 8, and this year the symphony is encouraging attendees to pack their cars for a drive-in movie-style experience. The gates will open each night at 5:30 p.m. for picnicking, with the concerts starting two hours later.

Maestro John Zoltek will lead the orchestra in familiar songs from popular movies, including selections from “Star Wars,” “ET: The Extra Terrestrial” and “Hook.”

One month later, Festival Amadeus will include a grand concert performance of Mozart’s opera “The Magic Flute” as a two-night finale to the six-day series of chamber and orchestra shows.

Festival Amadeus runs Aug. 8-13, with concerts in Whitefish and Bigfork. Guest performers this season are pianist Tanya Gabrielian and violinist Yevgeny Kutik.

The series begins with “Lyric and Heroic,” featuring Gabrielian performing Beethoven’s “Concerto No. 4 in G” at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center on Aug. 8. The next night is the first of two chamber concerts featuring Gabrielian and Kutik at Bethany Lutheran Church in Bigfork. The duo will reprise their performance Aug. 11.

“Prokofiev and Mendelssohn” are the featured composers on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Whitefish Performing Arts Center, before Festival Amadeus concludes with “The Magic Flute” Aug. 12 and 13. The concert version will feature a cast of professional opera singers, including baritone Ricardo Herrera, tenor Kirk Dougherty, sopranos Hanna Brammer-Dillon and Emily Peragine, bass Stephen Morscheck and others.
