The 37th annual spring production for the Northwest Ballet School and Co. is “Beautiful at the Ballet,” coming Mother’s Day weekend to the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts.

Northwest Ballet performs the “Nutcracker” every holiday season, and this year’s spring show will include classic performances from “Swan Lake,” “Peter Pan,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Chorus Line” and more. The compilation performance is departure from the company’s usual slate of shows.

“We’ve done singular story ballets for the last few years, so this is the first time since 2010 that we’re including a bit of everything into the performances” Director Marisa Roth said in a press release. “You will be treated to selections that include classical and contemporary ballet, lyrical, jazz, as well as appearances by guest artists, North End Swing and Afrofusion.”

The pieces are choreographed by Northwest Ballet School instructors, as well as guest artists, and will feature 40 talented dancers.

One of the dancers taking the stage is Northwest Ballet Co. principal Stephanie Smith, who has been dancing with the school for 15 years. “Beautiful at the Ballet” is her last show with the company.

“I have learned so much about teamwork being a dancer with Miss Marisa and the other girls,” Smith said in a release. “There were many times when I would be nervous before a solo or performance and the other dancers were right there to reassure me and tell me I could do it.

“The same would happen when any of them needed an encouraging word. Even though some might think dancing is an individual sport, we all work hard towards a common goal. This upcoming performance is especially great because it’s so fun. There really is something for everyone, since it includes bits and pieces from so many different shows.”

“Beautiful At The Ballet” performances will be Saturday, May 13 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and concluding Sunday, May 14 at 4 p.m.

Tickets for reserved seating can be purchased at the Northwest Ballet Co.’s exclusive ticket outlet, Kalispell Grand Hotel, 100 Main St. in Kalispell or by calling 406-755-8100. On show days tickets will only be available one hour before each performance at the Bigfork Center for the Performing Arts box office. Prices are $20 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under.
