'Folk Rewind' with Steve Eckels

“Folk Rewind” is an evening of group singing led by guitar instructor Steve Eckels, to be held at the Montana House on Friday, Aug. 11, from 7 to 9 p.m. The event will be in the new Kintla Camp event room at the Montana House, located in Apgar Village in Glacier National Park.

All are welcome to join Eckels, who will lead group singing of great songs of the folk revival of the 1950s and 1960s. Selected music includes songs made popular by Peter, Paul and Mary, The Kingston Trio, The Weavers, Pete Seeger, John Denver, Bob Dylan, The Carter Family, Lead Belly, Harry Belafonte, Woody Guthrie and many others. Song sheets will be provided. Eckels invites participants to bring stringed instruments for an old-fashioned hootenanny. In addition, he will perform several solo guitar selections from his albums “American Sampler” and “Cowboy Classics.”

Since the year 2000, Steve Eckels has taught high school guitar classes for the Kalispell school district. He is also the guitar instructor for Flathead Valley Community College. His formal training includes a bachelor’s degree from Berklee College of Music, a master’s degree from New England Conservatory, and a Music Education Certification from Northland College. He is active as a solo guitar performer as well as the leader of a 1950s rock ‘n’ roll band, Zino and the Bel Aires. Hans and Toni Jungster established the Montana House Regional Craft Shop in 1960 in Apgar Village, just inside Glacier National Park. Their daughter, Monica, and staff continue to carry on their mission: to celebrate and promote the creativity of Montana and Native American artists and craftsmen for the community’s mutual benefit. The Montana House has been a long time avid supporter of Glacier National Park.
