Mother and son charged in theft, assault incident

A mother and son are in jail after their alleged involvement in an incident of theft and assault at a grocery store.

Wayne Perry Pyrzewski, 25, has been charged with felony robbery. Ann Mary Pyrzewski, 49, has been charged with felony accountability to robbery. Bail is set at $50,000 for each person.

The alleged robbery occurred Aug. 1 when Flathead County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report at Super 1 Foods Store on U.S. 2 East in Kalispell. According to court documents, a loss prevention specialist at the store said he allegedly saw Wayne Pyrzewski stick a store item in his pocket and attempt to leave without paying for the item.

The loss prevention specialist reportedly approached the mother and son, identifying himself and telling Wayne Pyrzewski he needed to give back the item when Ann Pyrzewski allegedly told her son to run. The loss prevention specialist told law enforcement that he attempted to detain Wayne Pyrzewski when Ann Pyrzewski reportedly sprayed the loss prevention specialist in the face with pepper spray. Then, Wayne Pyrzewski purportedly “took a swing” at the loss prevention specialist, but missed according to court documents. The loss prevention specialist allegedly got Wayne Pyrzewski to the ground in an attempt to handcuff him when he reportedly hit or kicked the loss prevention specialist in the face.

Eventually, the loss prevention specialist was reportedly able to handcuff Wayne Pyrzewski. He then chased and apprehended Ann Pyrzewski, who had reportedly slapped him, according to a witness.

Officers located pepper spray in Ann Pyrzewski’s purse.

Arraignments are scheduled on Aug. 24.
